# MCHP 1-Month Forward Read — 2026-08-18 through ~2026-09-18

Commissioned by Joshua via Telegram, 2026-08-18. Dynamic company-research
flight; filed by raven-alpha. Builds on the 4-day read — identity, current
state ($80.26 close 2026-08-17, 52wk $48.52–105.91), Q1 FY27 print detail,
and leverage work are held there and not re-derived.

## 1. Catalyst map (dated; tagged MCHP / sector / macro)

| Date | Event | Scope | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Tue Aug 18, 9:00am PDT** | **MCHP Annual Meeting of Stockholders** (webcast) — [MCHP IR calendar](https://ir.microchip.com/news-events/ir-calendar) | MCHP | Routine governance; only formally scheduled MCHP event in the window |
| Wed Aug 19, 7:00am ET | ADI Q3 FY26 earnings (ADI IR-confirmed) | Sector | Closest peer; first inventory-cycle read-through of the month |
| Wed Aug 19, 2:00pm ET | FOMC July minutes | Macro | 9–3 fractured July vote; tone-setter into Jackson Hole |
| **Mon Aug 24** | **MCHP ex-dividend $0.455/qtr** | MCHP | Mechanical −0.57% on open; not a signal |
| **Wed Aug 26, after close** | **NVDA Q2 FY27 earnings — confirmed** ([NVIDIA IR](https://investor.nvidia.com/events-and-presentations/events-and-presentations/event-details/2026/NVIDIA-2nd-Quarter-FY27-Financial-Results/default.aspx)) | Sector | SOX-wide tone; consensus ~$92B rev, EPS ~$2.06 (aggregator, moderate confidence) |
| Thu–Sat Aug 27–29 | Jackson Hole symposium ([KC Fed](https://www.kansascityfed.org/research/jackson-hole-economic-symposium/)) | Macro | Rate-path AND Fed-leadership succession tone — the month's narrative-setter |
| ~Fri Aug 28 | July PCE inflation (**date unverified**, typical slot) | Macro | Fed's preferred gauge, lands during Jackson Hole |
| **Wed Sep 2, after close** | **AVGO Q3 FY26 earnings — confirmed, call 5pm ET** ([StockTitan](https://www.stocktitan.net/news/AVGO/broadcom-inc-to-announce-third-quarter-fiscal-year-2026-financial-dkaqc3d1n73a.html)) | Sector | AI-semi bellwether #2; second SOX gate |
| **Fri Sep 4, 8:30am ET** | **August jobs report** ([BLS](https://www.bls.gov/schedule/)) | Macro | July miss moved Sept-Fed odds; biggest macro input before FOMC |
| ~Sep 8–10 | Goldman Communacopia + Citi Global Tech conferences — **MCHP 2026 attendance UNCONFIRMED** (2025 precedent only) | MCHP | If attended: first mgmt commentary since print + COO exit; watch IR page |
| **Fri Sep 11, 8:30am ET** | **August CPI** ([schedule](https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/consumer-price-index-release-schedule/)) | Macro | Last inflation print before FOMC |
| **Tue–Wed Sep 15–16** | **FOMC; decision + dot plot Wed Sep 16, 2pm ET — confirmed** ([FedRateCalc](https://fedratecalc.com/fomc-meeting-schedule/september-2026/)) | Macro | The month's largest scheduled event; SEP/dot-plot meeting |
| Rolling | Hailo close/regulatory news; COO succession announcement | MCHP | Unscheduled; either could land any day |

**Shape of the month:** front-loaded sector tests (ADI, NVDA, AVGO) answer
"is the semi cycle intact"; back-loaded macro (jobs → CPI → FOMC) answers
"does the multiple get help." MCHP itself has almost nothing scheduled — it
rides both waves with 2.85x leverage amplifying whichever arrives.

## 2. Structural forces at one month

- **Cyclical recovery thesis.** Q1 FY27 sales +38% YoY off trough comp,
  above guide high end; Sept-qtr ~$1.6B ≈ +8% seq (8-K + transcript, Aug 6).
Two sequential growth quarters with raised trajectory = textbook
inventory-correction-ending signature. The month reprices it on PROXY
evidence only (ADI Aug 19, AVGO Sep 2) — MCHP's own next print is ~early
  Nov, outside the window.
- **Hailo acquisition.** Definitive agreement Jul 24, terms undisclosed;
close expected "near end of quarter ending Sep 30, 2026," regulatory
  approvals pending ([MCHP IR PR](https://ir.microchip.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/1406/microchip-technology-signs-definitive-agreement-to-acquire-hailo)).
Close likely lands just past window's end; approval/financing news can land
inside it. Undisclosed price is the risk — a large cash outlay collides
with deleveraging. Flagged: no financing detail found.
- **Deleveraging/buybacks.** 2.85x at Jun 30, ~$150M/qtr paydown, management
explicit deleveraging precedes buybacks (Aug 6 transcript). Resumption
quarters away — **no buyback bid this window**; leverage matters only as
downside amplifier in a rate scare.
- **Analyst PT gap.** Buy consensus, avg PT ~$109–112 vs $80.26 ≈ 36% gap.
Peer confirmation + dovish dots could close perhaps a third (melt-up
case); full closure needs the November print. Cushion, not catalyst.
- **Short interest.** ~40.9M shares, **7.7% of float, +25.1% vs prior
  period** ([MarketBeat](https://www.marketbeat.com/stocks/NASDAQ/MCHP/short-interest),
  [Fintel](https://fintel.io/ss/us/mchp)) — July settlement data, ~1 month
stale. Elevated-and-rising into a beat = modest squeeze fuel on good news.

## 3. Expected move (~22 trading days)

- **Hot estimate** (realized 3.3%/day, Jul 1–Aug 17 ex-earnings-day):
  ×√22 ≈ **±15.5% one-sigma → ~$68–93**. Sample contains aftershocks;
  likely overstates forward.
- **Cooled estimate** (post-earnings IV crush observed by Aug 13; a calmer
  2.2–2.5%/day ≈ 35–40% annualized): ≈ **±11% → ~$71–89**.
- **Working band: one-sigma roughly $71–90** (±11–13%), ~1/3 odds outside.
  Cooled band's edges reproduce the actual Jul–Aug range ($74.36–$88) — a
  sanity check, not a coincidence.
- **Dividend:** $0.455 drops out Mon Aug 24 (−0.57% mechanical).

## 4. Scenarios to ~Sep 18

| # | Scenario | Trigger chain | Landing zone | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | **Base grind** | Peers in-line, macro mixed, FOMC delivers what's priced | **$76–86** (−5% to +7%) | **~40%** |
| 2 | **Melt-up / thesis repricing** | NVDA beat-raise + dovish Jackson Hole + AVGO confirm + cut-friendly dots; shorts cover; PT gap part-closes | **$88–93** (+10% to +16%), breaks July range top | ~20% |
| 3 | **Macro-led selloff** | Hawkish Jackson Hole / hot CPI / hawkish dots, or NVDA stumble deflates semis; leverage amplifies | **$68–74** (−8% to −15%), retests Aug 6 low | ~25% |
| 4 | **Idiosyncratic** | Hailo terms surprise, exec fallout post-COO, analyst capitulation/upgrade cycle | Either direction, beyond band | ~15% |

Probability-weighted expected value ≈ **$79–81 — roughly flat**: wide
distribution, mean near spot, mildly positive skew (own-print momentum +
sell-side gap + short-cover fuel vs leverage-amplified macro risk).

**Fed pricing, flagged low-confidence:** Sep 16 odds contradictory across
sources — CME FedWatch ~69% hold (Aug 14, [centralbank.watch](https://centralbank.watch/federal-reserve/)),
Kalshi ~65% vs CME ~60% hold ([defirate](https://defirate.com/prediction-markets/fed-decision-odds/)),
while cut odds rose sharply after the July jobs miss
([CNBC Aug 7](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/08/07/odds-the-fed-hikes-in-september-tumble-following-big-july-jobs-miss.html)).
September pricing is genuinely unsettled going into Jackson Hole — that
unsettledness is why scenario 3 carries 25%.

## 5. Honest framing

A month is long enough for the market to *begin* repricing the recovery
thesis — three peer prints and a dot plot land inside the window — but MCHP
contributes almost no news of its own (no earnings, buybacks parked, Hailo
close likely past the edge). The evidence supports exactly this: **the
recovery thesis is intact and cheaply insured by a 36% sell-side gap and
rising short interest, but the path is macro-hostage, and the widest
branch-point is Sep 16.** Breaks the read: NVDA disappointment, hawkish FOMC
surprise, or a Hailo financing surprise (deleveraging → re-leveraging).
Confirms it: ADI/AVGO corroborating inventory-correction-over — then $86 is
the range-break level to watch.

**Unverified/stale items:** July PCE date (~Aug 28, typical slot); MCHP
September conference attendance (2025 precedent only); short interest (July
settlement, ~1 month stale); Fed odds (contradictory, flagged in-line).
